Hexagons, rectangles and more
New gamemodes
Hexagons: A surprisingly decent shape for this sort of game. They fit together nicely (can tesselate) unlike something like pentagons.
Rectangles: The large difference between them ending up horizontally and vertically can make the game a lot more interesting, and these are even easier to stack than squares, I ended up making them slightly bigger compared to squares.
Corners: A new L shape piece I am testing. At the moment they do not work except with extreme physics settings enabled so I marked this mode as "beta". The shapes wiggle like crazy, and get shot into the void (or the top of the screen). Without the extreme physics settings, they get stuck in other objects. I have a couple ideas on how to fix this but for now I just decided to push the update rather than wait.
Random: Random has been updated to include hexagons and rectangles, now each game provides even more of a wildly different experience from the previous. It's fun seeing what sort of structures get built
Other changes:
- Added some bgm, it's ♫ from Ordinary Songs by Snail's House, who has a very generous music usage policy. You can find more of his music here: Snail's House | Spotify
- Added a drop preview: Shapes now show a transparent drop preview to help guide placement. This can be disabled with right click. I see this game as more of a puzzle game so I don't mind having this be added. It works best with circles, and the other shapes generally use a rectangle shape to test where a shape will land regardless of the shape you are dropping so it isn't perfect.
- Added some more color options, in the future I'd like to just allow players to add their own themes but for now I just added a bunch I found.
- Updated visuals, now there is a 3d box design, and some symbols for the fast/slow toggle so it isn't as much of an eye sore.\
- Tap and hold to aim, release to drop for touch devices added (in browser)
What's next? :
Next up I will be working on improving visuals mainly, which will include getting some background decoration of some sort, probably animating faces (and replacing faces that are redraws from the original, I want everything to be original ultimately), and updating UI.
A pause menu with settings all in one place
A better mode select
Steam leaderboards, custom shape combination gamemodes
I will be aiming to re-release on steam eventually for around 3$. The game will remain free on itch but support is appreciated.
The game also crossed 10k plays recently so thanks for all the support.
